A New Approach in Query Expansion Methods for Improving Information Retrieval

This research develops a new approach to query expansion by integrating Association Rules (AR) and Ontology. In the proposed approach, there are several steps expand query, namely (1) document retrieval step; (2) step of using AR; (3) initial step, system retrieved top documents via user's query. Next is processing (stopword removal, POS Tagging, TF-IDF). Then do Frequent Itemset (FI) search from list terms generated previous FP-Growth. The association rules results FI. output AR expanded with Ontology use as queries. dataset used collection learning documents. Ten queries for testing, test measured three measuring devices, recall, precision, f-measure. Based on testing analysis results, can increase relevance value f-measure 87.28, 79.07, 82.85.
